Instagram announce IGTV!

Instagram has launched a new app where you are able to share videos with up to an hour of content. It has been described by Instagram as its ‘most exciting feature to date’.

They have launched a separate app where you can watch longer videos. The difference is on the app there is no feed, no still pictures and no stories. Its distinguishing feature from other video platforms such as YouTube is that all the video content is in a vertical format. You will be able to watch the videos on the app as well as the traditional Instagram offering.

All of the people on their are listed as channels. All you need to do is create a channel when you sign up and then link that to your existing Instagram account. There have been many famous celebrities already signed up such as Kim Kardashian.

The reason for this shift is there has been an increasing popularity in video content on the platform through Instagram stories. The easiest way to get it is through the app store.The easiest way to watch the videos is to use the app or to swipe on existing Instagram stories and that will open up the longer video.

To get started, open up the IGTV app and click on your profile picture, which should show on the right side next to a cog. It will prompt you to create a channel, and then take you through a number of steps and give you some advice.

Once that’s done, you’ll head back to your home feed. Now whenever you want to share some video, you can click your profile picture again and be taken onto your own channel – press the little plus button and you’ll be able to upload some video.
