Le Boeuf Interview

We recently caught up with DJ & Producer Le Boeuf after the release of his latest single ‘Mirror’.

Hi, Le Boeuf thanks for taking the time to talk to us at Melodic Nation. For people that don’t know how long have you been producing for and how did you come up with your artist name?

Hi! First of all, thanks for your interest! The name Le Boeuf was something I came up with as boeuf (bøf in danish) was something me and my homies used to call each other, sort of like “hi bro whats up” but with bøf instead of bro, which directly translated means beef or strong fella. Bøf and Boeuf are pronounced the same way in both French and danish so I thought that was fun. I’ve produced music since I was 14 years old or something, back when Ejay music maker was the only affordable DAW a teenager could get.

You are well known for producing dance-pop, tropical-inspired songs how did you get into this style of music?

I used to produce harder styles of music back in the day. It was actually the likes of Thomas Jack, Kygo and Matoma that got me into the more chilled out aspects of dance music

We here love your latest track ‘Mirror’ how did that song come about?

‘Mirror’ is a collaboration and teamwork between many people. But basically, the team showed me Asklings vocal on it and I instantly fell in love with her voice and started producing the track together with a friend of mine

Recently you have released two collaborations ‘Weak’ with Deep Chills & ‘Wanna Go’ with Teddy Beats. How did these two tracks come about?

I’ve known Deep Chills for many years, actually from back when SoundCloud was the biggest platform. So we started talking there because we were making the same sort of genre. Then back in May 2020 I sent him an idea me and my friend Matt Lukasiewicz had been working on and he took the production to another level!

‘Wanna Go’ was an idea Teddy had been working on with Jolee Nikoal. I didn’t know teddy before but he told me he was a real big fan of some of my stuff and if I wanted to work on this idea together. I liked the idea, and we instantly connected and started making a chill-out banger:-

Would you ever consider producing any other genres of music?
Yeah, I actually do from time to time, but nothing that ever gets released. I’m a big fan of hip hop.

How do you go about finding vocalists on your tracks?

Basically, through the internet, there are so many talented people, just do an Instagram search. You’d be amazed at how much raw talent there is out there! Also, my friend Matt knows a lot of co-singer/songwriters.

Has the recent pandemic changed the way you make music, or has it given you time to reflect on things?

It hasn’t really changed the way I make music. But it certainly has changed my goals about music in 2020/2021 as you really couldn’t set any festival/DJ gigs goals. So one of my goals right now is obviously to release a lot of good music on cool labels, and hopefully reach 1 million monthly listeners soon 🙂

Finally, any plans you can share with us for the rest of 2021?

I have a new song out on march 5th called Lose Your Love, Which is a track I’m very proud of. With vocals from a very talented us singer called Abby Celso check it out 🙂 !
