Patrick Lite Interview
We recently caught up with Dutch producer Patrick Lite shortly after the release of his single ‘Paradise’ and to discuss his plans for 2023.
Hi, Welcome to Melodic Nation; where are you from, and how did you come up with your artist name?
Hey! My name is Patrick Leijte, and I’m from the Netherlands. Regarding the name, from the looks of it might seem I didn’t think it through a lot, right? Leijte became Lite and there we are. I think I wrote down tens of ideas but in the end I liked Patrick lite the most and now we are here. Did you know that beside Patrick Lite I also produce lofi stuff? And this january I will launch a new profile for dance projects called Alterlite.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it?
I would say it sounds chill, with both influences from tropical house and deep house.
How long have you been producing before? Do you have any tips for younger artists on getting signed to labels? You have released on Soave & Miami Beats, to name a few.
My first finished track was made in FL Studio back in 2010. Oef… that’s been a while. It was a very bad hardstyle track called the Grasshopper, haha! I grinded for a few years, learning the art of music production and like any other artist back in those days I posted remixes on Soundcloud. I got two strikes from Soundcloud which propelled me into making my own tracks from scratch. In 2015 I released my first signed track with a record label. From there on record labels started to approach me. My tip for young producers would be to keep on grinding, keep sending your best demo’s to your favourite labels and once you hit your first release you made contact with A&R and from there on you can built your portfolio further with the expertise and skillset of A&R and other experts at the label.
Your latest release, ‘Paradise’ is one of our current favourites. How did this track come about?
Actually the vocalist sended me a message via Instagram. We had a chat, a call, back and forwarded ideas and our A&R at Soave (he is a dope and talented guy) forwarded some suggestions from his side as well, which, after a couple of months, resulted in the track as it is today.
As the end of the year is nearing the end, what has been your five stand-out tracks?
1. Miss You from Robin Schulz
2. Lost in Amsterdan, Möwe
3. Another Light from Gabry Ponte
4. In Your Arms, Saib
5. City Lounge, Saib
Who were your biggest inspirations for the sound you are making now?
My biggest inspirations and artists I check regularly are Möwe, Lost Frequencies, Deepend and a lot of Soave artists like Kav Verhouzer, De Hofnar and Brendan Mills.
Anything we can expect from you in 2023?
Yeah, so like I mentioned before. In January I will launch my dance music oriented profile called Alterlite. Besides my Patrick Lite profile I will release regularly on Flip Flop Joe and my lofi profiles. Regarding Patrick Lite by the way, I think I am currently finishing one of the best tracks I ever made. At least I am liking it a lot, haha! Hopefully this one will be released later this year.
Thanks for inviting me for this interview and for all the support I got from Melodic Nation. I appreciate this a lot!
