The rise of slap house
In the world of EDM new genres are being created almost every year it seems like. This is fulled by the easy access to technology and the rise of social media & with the internet genres are able to be discovered much more easily and out of nowhere flourish.
Once a genre becomes popular a whole host of new DJs emerge as well as several big artists who will jump on the bandwagon just to capture the momentum and gain loads of streams.
As streaming has increased, one of the benefits is you are able to release much more frequently than ever before and this has seen many big artists now flirt with other genres rather than being stuck with the one genre they are mainly known for. Great examples of this include Armin Van Burren, Afrojack & Tiesto.
One new genre that has captured the mainstream this year is this EDM deep house sound which has been coined as ‘Slap House’. This music style combines jamming house music with energetic bass rhythms. If you listen closely you can be mistaken for thinking this is Brazilan Bass. The sounds used and the speed of the music is slightly different. Here is a classic Brazilian Bass track from Alok and you will hear the difference.
The first major hit in Slap House actually surfaced in 2018 from Dynoro with his single ‘In My Mind’ which has amassed over 800 million streams on Spotify alone.
This year has seen it really take hold with several hits and almost every major dance label has released a song in this genre alone. Several of the massive hits that have emerged this year include Imanbek’s remix of SAINt JHN’s tune ‘Roses’. Another artist that has helped popularize the genre is Vize.
As with any genre gaining popularity some big names have jumped onto this genre including R3hab & Tiesto.
