Vize in trouble over alleged stealing of song written by Gia Koka
A phenoman that is apprently rife with the music industy has been brought to light by singer & songwriter Gia Koka. This is when songwriters get their songs stolen. This is exactly what Gia Koka is claiming that Vize have done.
She spoke out after a song she wrote alongside Joe Hike & Matt Wawro was agreed to be a collaboration with Vize. Instead, Vize dropped an almost identical version of their song with a few tweaks and sung by a new singer. This resulted in their song ‘Devils Cup‘ which didn’t even credit her and there was no compensation given.
You can see her side of the story below and listen to both versions
Gia Koka is prepared to take this issue forward to the courts. She has teamed up with the same lawyer Oktay Duzgun who assisted on the Martin Garrix case with Spinnin Records. So far Vize has not commented on this issue.
This brings us on to a wider issue of how songwriters are treated in the music industry with many, especially in dance music, offered small royalty splits despite being crucial to a song. Compared to the artists themselves songwriters are greatly undervalued.
Gia Koka is a name you may be familiar with as she has previously worked with the likes of Sam Feldt & Sigma on ‘2 Hearts’
What are your thoughts on this issue?
A lesson to any new artists and songwriters is that the music industry isn’t as rosy as sometimes may seem.
